South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer got the best kind of Christmas present on Thursday. Springfield (Ga.) Effingham County safety Jernard Albright announced his commitment to South Carolina.
Albright, a 6-foot-2 safety from the 2027 class, came to campus for visits during the Clemson and Kentucky games earlier this season. The Gamecocks were competing with fellow SEC peers like Ole Miss and Texas A&M, as well as others. Albright held offers from 15 power conference teams, but South Carolina consistently stood out.
He told The Big Spur that South Carolina made an effort to stay in contact with both him and his mother, and that mattered. “I feel like that’s where home is,” he told the outlet.
Albright is a 4-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He is the 19th-ranked safety in the class and the 23rd-ranked prospect from the state of Georgia. In the overall player rankings, Albright ranks as the No. 176 recruit in the 2027 cycle.
He finished his junior season — a 5A playoff run with Effingham County — with 50 tackles, 3 pass breakups, and 2 interceptions in 9 games.
For Beamer, Albright is the first prospect to join the 2027 class. South Carolina signed a top-20 class in the 2026 cycle, which was its third in the last 4 years. While Beamer is hoping more success finds the Gamecocks on the field next fall, there’s no doubt that what he is selling on the trail is resonating with recruits in recent years.
