MCSO: Burglars arrested after breaking into Ukiah market

A group of burglars suspected of multiple break-ins were arrested recently after breaking into a Ukiah store, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported.

According to the MCSO, deputies responded to the Forks Ranch Market on North State Street around 3 a.m. Dec. 23 for a reported burglary involving suspects who “forced entry into the business and stole lottery tickets, currency, and other identifiable items from inside the store.”

While beginning their investigation, the MCSO reports being notified by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that “they were actively investigating two commercial burglaries in their jurisdiction and had located a suspect vehicle in the area of Clearlake Oaks. Lake County deputies detained four suspects associated with the vehicle and observed property inside that was consistent with items reported stolen from the Forks Ranch Market, as well as from their recently discovered burglaries.”

When MCSO deputies responded to assist the Lake County deputies, they reported confirming that inside the vehicle was property stolen from the Ukiah business, which “was recovered and is currently in the process of being returned to the Forks Ranch Market. Investigators from the California Lottery also assisted with the investigation related to the stolen lottery products.”

The MCSO also reports that the vehicle and property inside “matched the description of a vehicle and loss associated with a separate burglary in the city of Ukiah, which the Ukiah Police Department was investigating and which occurred around the same time as the Forks Ranch Market burglary. The connected investigations indicated that the burglaries shared the same suspect vehicle, a similar number of suspects, and consistent methods of operation.”

Four suspects were then identified through what the MCSO described as “strong collaboration and communication between community members, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Ukiah Police Department, the California Lottery” and the MCSO: Simeon Reed, 23, of Kelseyville; Daniel Goodwin, 24, of Sacramento; Tobias Menefee, 26, of Sacramento, and Demare Burgess, 30, of Sacramento.

The four men were arrested by the LCSO on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, and booked into the Lake County Correctional Facility, with each suspect reportedly being held in custody in lieu of $150,000 bail.

The MCSO adds that “a large majority of the victims’ reported property from the affected businesses was located and is currently in the process of being returned.”
