The 49ers had six players named to the Pro Bowl roster announced early Tuesday morning, including multi-time honorees fullback Kyle Juszczyk, tight end George Kittle, running back Christian McCaffrey, long snapper Jon Weeks and left tackle Trent Williams. Linebacker Luke Gifford was named to the roster as a special teamer, and receiver Skyy Moore will be an alternate for his punt and kick returning prowess.
The announcement came a day after the 49ers reeled off their fifth consecutive win, beating the Colts in Indianapolis 48-27.
Kittle’s honor is the seventh of his career, making the Pro Bowl each year since 2021. He has 52 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns this season — including five scores over his last six games. He topped 100 yards in a game for the first time this season on Monday night, making seven catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Kittle, 32, suffered a hamstring injury in the 49ers’ Week 1 win in Seattle and missed five games. He didn’t top 50 yards in a game until Week 10, and hasn’t finished below that figure in a game since.
McCaffrey, 29, needs 151 receiving yards over the 49ers’ last two games to notch a 1,000-1,000 season, a feat only he (2019), 49ers legend Roger Craig (1985) and Rams star Marshall Faulk (1999) have ever reached. The 2023 Offensive Player of the Year is a Pro Bowler for the fourth time in his career as he carried an injury-weakened 49ers offense early in the season.
Juszczyk, 34, made the Pro Bowl for the 10th consecutive season. He has been an NFC representative every season since joining the 49ers from Baltimore in 2017. He has 21 catches for 194 yards and a score in addition to two carries for minus-3 yards, but his impact goes well beyond the stat sheet. His ability to split out wide and move throughout the formation opens up coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
Williams is a Pro Bowler for the 12th time, and has looked stronger as this year has gone on. He struggled a bit early with an ankle injury — a joint that limited him last year, too, in the only season he has not been named to the Pro Bowl since arriving to the 49ers in 2020. Fans chanted “one more year” to the 37-year-old Williams during his ESPN interview postgame in Indianapolis, but if this is his last, he’ll go out with another honor. He’s the fourth o-lineman to be named to 12 or more Pro Bowls.
Weeks and Gifford both signed with the 49ers as free agents last offseason. Moore arrived as a trade acquisition from the Kansas City Chiefs in the preseason.
Weeks previously reached the Pro Bowl in the 2015 season for Houston, where he played the first 15 seasons of his career before coming to the Niners. Gifford, a seventh-year veteran who previously played for the Cowboys and Titans, has 30 tackles this season, primarily playing on special teams.
