The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond’s foster son, Jamar Goff, has been sentenced following his September arrest in Alabama on drug possession and assault charges.
Goff pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a controlled substance in an Alabama court on Wednesday, Nov. 4, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.
According to Page Six, he received a 48-month suspended sentence for the assault charge and a 24-month suspended sentence for the drug possession charge. He was also placed on 12 months of supervised probation.
As part of the sentencing, Goff must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and submit to random drug testing. He is also prohibited from entering the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus.
According to the report, prosecutors dropped two additional charges, attempting to elude a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, as part of the plea agreement.
Goff was released from custody following the sentencing.
The legal development comes nearly two months after Goff was arrested in September following an encounter with police on the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus.
According to court documents previously reported by multiple outlets, officers responding to a suspicious-person call found Goff sleeping near a campus fountain. After discovering an outstanding warrant, officers attempted to take him into custody.
Goff allegedly fled and struck an officer during the encounter. Police also reported finding drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine.
The September arrest generated headlines because of Goff’s connection to Drummond, who welcomed him into her family with husband Ladd Drummond in 2018.
The Food Network star first publicly introduced Goff as her foster son in her 2020 book, Frontier Follies, explaining that he had become close to the family through her sons Bryce and Todd, who played football with him.
Drummond has spoken warmly about Goff over the years, sharing family milestones and expressing pride in his accomplishments.
As of the latest reports, Drummond has not publicly commented on Goff’s sentencing.
