Former University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh revealed he has been in touch with Sherrone Moore since Moore’s termination and arrest last week.
During a Tuesday, December 16, appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, Harbaugh, 61, said he has exchanged text messages with Moore, 39, since Moore was abruptly fired as Michigan’s head football coach on Wednesday, December 10.
When asked about Moore’s “spirits,” Harbaugh said, “It’s a tragedy, it’s the worst days of his life.”
“Keep it together and take care of his family, that’s the message,” Harbaugh continued. “Getting spiritual guidance is really critical.”

Moore has been married to his wife, Kelli, since 2015 and the couple share three daughters: Shiloh, born in 2019, Solei, born in 2022, and Sadie, born earlier this year.
“I still don’t have my head wrapped around it, Dan,” Harbaugh said of the Moore saga. “It’s a tragedy and I’m just praying for all concerned. I love my alma mater. Love Michigan.”
Moore took over as head coach at the University of Michigan after Harbaugh won a national championship in 2023 and left to coach the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan from 1983 to 1986.
Given his team’s place in the thick of the AFC playoff picture — and a date with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, December 21 — Harbaugh said he’s had plenty on his mind this week.
“I love the Chargers, too,” he added, “I’d be doing a disservice if I wasn’t putting all my focus on this game. This is the most important game for us.”
When asked by Patrick, 69, if he’s helping Michigan with their search for the school’s next head coach, Harbaugh said, “No, I’m not. All focus is on the Dallas Cowboys.”
Harbaugh first addressed the situation involving Moore during a press conference on Friday, December 13.
“I’m still processing that,” Harbaugh said. “Still processing that like a lot of people I’m sure.”
Biff Poggi was named interim head coach at Michigan after Moore’s firing. The Associated Press reported on Monday, December 15, that the university is hoping to name a new permanent head coach by the end of the month.
Poggi, 66, is helping prepare Michigan for their showdown with the University of Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve. The interim coach broke silence about Moore’s termination and arrest on Monday.
“It has been a tumultuous time,” Poggi told reporters. “A lot of anger. At first disbelief, then anger, then really, what we’re in right now is the phase of the kids, quite frankly, feel very betrayed. We’re trying to work through that.”
Moore was arrested on Wednesday, just hours after being informed by Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel that he had been fired after an investigation uncovered an “inappropriate relationship” with a football team staff member.
After being made aware of his termination, Moore allegedly broke into the staff member’s apartment and threatened to harm himself with knives he found in her kitchen.

Moore was taken into custody on Wednesday evening and stayed in jail until his arraignment hearing on Friday.
The former coach was charged with one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering.
Moore was released on $25,000 bond and ordered to wear a GPS monitor, in addition to having no contact with the staff member.
His next court date is scheduled for January 22.
