SwimMac Carolina 17-year-old Santi Alzate was the top seed in the boys’ 1000 freestyle on day one of the 2025 Speedo Winter Junior Championships — East, and he has scratched the event.
Alzate is committed to start at the University of Florida in the fall, and at last year’s Championships, he finished 9th in the 1650, which was his highest finish at the meet (the 1000 was not contested).
He was seeded nearly two seconds ahead of the rest of the field in 9:04.20. He still appears on the psych sheet in the 500 free (5th seed), 400 IM (10th seed), 200 free (19th seed), and the 1650 free (7th seed).
Alzate was not the only 1000 freestyler to scratch. 2nd seed Tristan Furlow of Shawmut Aquatics also scratched. Furlow came in at 9:06.19 to be seeded a little more than a second ahead of Sarasota Sharks 17-year-old Jackson Debruin, who will now hold the top seed in 9:07.35.
Furlow, 18, is currently a junior and is uncommitted for the class of 2027. He is still entered in the 500 free (13th seed), 200 IM (49th seed), 200 free (48th seed), 200 back (97th seed), and the 100 free (119th seed).
The final top-24 scratch came on the girls; side from Crimson Aquatics 17-year-old Vivian Moulson. She was seeded 12th in 9:58.40, just under two tenths ahead of Hannah Wooten’s 9:58.57.
Moulson is committed to attend the University of Wisconsin next fall, and she is still on the psych sheet in the 500 free (17th seed), 400 IM (12th seed), 100 fly (35th seed), 100 breast (92nd seed), 200 breast (24th seed), and the 200 fly (13th seed).
