Few details have been released surrounding an Elgin crash that shut down a prominent intersection near Interstate 90 for several hours Thursday.
Police said in an update Friday that at least four vehicles were involved in the crash and injuries were reported. It was not clear how many people were hurt or how severe their injuries were.
Police said the crash, which shut down parts of Big Timber and North State Street (Route 31) for hours during the afternoon and evening rush hours Thursday, remained under investigation Friday.
Further details on what led to the crash were not released.
Elgin police on Thursday urged drivers to avoid the area of North State Street and Big Timber as the roadways were shut down.
“We ask drivers to avoid the area and to use alternate routes,” the department wrote in an alert on social media.
The intersection was closed from just before 5 p.m. to around 10 p.m. Thursday.
The crash took place near the entrance and exit ramps to Interstate 90 for the northwest suburb and just outside of Judson University.
