Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson revealed that he once was involved in a game night with fellow actors, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, that turned heated.
While interviewing Bell’s Nobody Wants This co-star, Justine Lupe, for the October 20 episode of his podcast, Dinner’s On Me, Ferguson said that he attended a game night where Bell and Shepard were also guests. According to Ferguson, the couple, who wed in 2013, “locked in this crazy way” during a game of Mafia.
Ferguson explained that his role in the deduction game allowed him to know that Shepard was secretly a “mafioso,” not an innocent player like he was pretending to be. However, Bell refused to believe Ferguson that her husband was “part of the mafia.”
“She was like arguing with me across the room. She’s like, ‘I know him. He’s my husband. He is a terrible actor, like in games like this. He would not be able to pull the wool over my eyes,” said Ferguson during his podcast episode. “‘I’ve been watching him this whole game. None of the tells are there. I know him. I know him. I know him. I know him. I know him.’ And basically she would not believe me. She would not.”
According to Ferguson, Bell wasn’t happy with Shepard when his true Mafia role was revealed.
“Dax kills Kristen in the next round. We open up our eyes. She realizes she’s been killed. She looks at him ’cause she knows that he fooled her. She was livid,” said Ferguson with a laugh.
Kristen Bell Discussed What She Has Learned in Her Relationship With Dax Shepard
During a 2025 episode of Finding Your Roots, Bell shared what she has learned from being in a relationship with Shepard since 2007. According to Bell, her husband has helped her be more okay with making mistakes.
“There’s a lot of mistakes to be made. But mistakes don’t have to be filled with guilt or shame. They can be celebrated as learning experiences. And you can be honest about them. And I feel like I’ve become a lot more authentically me since I’ve met my husband. Because he’s been such a huge safety net of ‘It’s okay if you do things that you regret,'” said Bell, who has two children with Shepard, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11.
She also said that her and Shepard’s relationship is full of fun and trust.
“Most of all what I think I’ve learned is life, can be, if you choose, really about having fun with someone… Look, we fight just as much as every other couple. But there’s a trusting foundation underneath it, that we’ve got each other, and I believe he’d say the same,” said the actress.
