CAIRO, Dec 2 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised the strong and wide-ranging bilateral relationship with Germany during talks with German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan, according to foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf.
Abdelatty highlighted Germany’s “constructive role” in supporting development projects in Egypt and said Germany remains one of Egypt’s most important development partners. He welcomed the outcome of Egypt-Germany government negotiations held in Berlin on Nov. 17, which focused on implementing new development projects, and expressed hope for further cooperation in this field.
He also commended ongoing collaboration on labor mobility, citing work by the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration. Abdelatty said this cooperation offers mutual benefits for both countries.
The top diplomat briefed the German minister on the latest developments in Gaza, including preparations for a conference on its early recovery and reconstruction. He stressed Egypt’s desire for effective German participation and underlined the essential role of UNRWA, saying its services cannot be replaced and that its funding must continue.
Abdelatty outlined opportunities for trilateral cooperation between Egypt and Germany in Africa, especially in development and water-resource management. He pointed to Egypt’s contributions to energy, development assistance and peace and security efforts across the continent, and voiced interest in expanding joint work, including through the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding.
He also presented key elements of Egypt’s Suez and Red Sea StREAM initiative, which aims to link economic, developmental and environmental frameworks and build capacity among Red Sea littoral states.
The talks covered the situation in Sudan, where Abdelatty condemned the grave violations in El Fasher. He outlined Egypt’s role within the Quartet mechanism to halt the conflict and preserve Sudan’s unity. He called for intensified international efforts to secure a ceasefire and establish safe corridors for humanitarian aid, saying Egypt is committed to facilitating relief access in coordination with international institutions and partners.
