Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has finalised the dates for the 6th edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL). Planned to be played from late November to late December in 2025, the tournament was postponed by SLC to prioritise planning for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
LPL returns to mid-window
Sri Lanka is co-hosting the International Cricket Council (ICC) event with India in February-March and has decided to fully focus on preparing the three venues. SLC had paused renovations at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium (RPICS) in Colombo due to the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, which they also co-hosted with India.
The 6th edition of LPL will be played from July 8 to August 8 in 2026. The 2023 season of the 5-team tournament was also held in the same window.
“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be held from 8th July to 8th August 2026. The new dates for the sixth edition were finalized following the postponement of the tournament, which was originally scheduled to be held in December 2025. ponement was made considering the broader requirement of preparing the ‘Host Venues’ well in advance for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India during February-March 2026. With this decision, the five-team tournament, Sri Lanka’s topmost domestic T20 competition, will return to a mid-year window, as in several previous editions,” SLC said in a statement.
Team developments
Colombo Kaps, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, and Kandy Falcons have been confirmed as the four teams. The Jaffna franchise, called Kings, has been terminated after owners Lyca Group failed to fulfil the obligations set forth by the SLC. It’s yet to be seen whether Jaffna will be rebranded or another franchise will enter the fray.
