Alabama safety Bray Hubbard balled out in the Crimson Tide’s 27-20 victory over Auburn on the road Saturday night. The junior had two tackles, a forced fumble and an interception in the rivalry week thriller.
“That’s just what you’d expect from Bray,” head coach Kalen DeBoer said.
The first turnover of the game for Hubbard came late in the third quarter when he made an opportunistic play on a tipped ball for an interception, which he took 34 yards to set his team up inside Tiger territory.
His second came with under a minute to play when he forced a fumble on Auburn standout receiver Cam Coleman to effectively end the Tigers’ hopes of coming back down a score.
“I call him a [bad MF,] because that’s what he is,” linebacker Deontae Lawson said. “He always finds a way to get the ball out.”
DeBoer revealed after the game that Hubbard had been dealing with an illness and that he has had to battle in order to get right for this game.
“He’s just tough,” DeBoer said. “He’s resilient.”
Hubbard expressed excitement for the Crimson Tide’s next challenge, the SEC championship game versus Georgia but noted the focus that he and his teammates need to display moving forward.
“It’s gonna be a great rematch,” Hubbard said. “They’re a great football team, so we gotta focus on our corrections for the next 24 hours of this game, and we’re gonna move onto Georgia.”
Alabama will look to cage the Bulldogs for the second time this season as the two meet up in yet another SEC title game. The SEC championship will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ABC.
