ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The holiday shopping season has officially kicked off with Black Friday. But big box stores and online retailers aren’t the only places offering deals and specials.
Local stores, restaurants, and other independently-owned businesses are gearing up for Small Business Saturday. Stacy K. Ercan, the owner of Stacy K Floral on Russell Street off University Avenue, says supporting small businesses is both good for the local economy and offers a way to find unique holiday gifts.
“It’s so important to think small sporting. This business supports 15 employees that work in our work and live in our local community and this time of year is when they need that the most,” Ercan said. “They need to be supported. This is our last stretch to get into the new year.”
On Saturday, small businesses in the Monroe Avenue area are holding specials and events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “Shop Small Monroe” is hosting a community clean-up, a holiday bazaar with local artists, photos with the Grinch, and self-defense demos. Families can also stop by the Monroe Avenue Firehouse open house.
