Start the Season right! A Christmas Carol Sing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2025 – a perfect end to Thanksgiving and beginning of Christmas.
The free event is a gift to the community to attend and participate.
The Carol Sing will be hosted by Crossroads Christian Church-Ukiah and will be held at their new meeting location in Ukiah at 900 South Dora Street. The purpose of the event is to sing the familiar carols that are a part of our holiday celebrations and Christmas traditions. Each participant will be provided a hymnbook that includes the words and music for each carol that will be sung. No musical knowledge is required; just bring your voice and join in the singing.
The Carol Sing will be led by Dr. Merril Smoak of Livermore, Calif. Currently Dr. Smoak serves as the Dean of Olivet University’s Jubilee College of Music and is a Senior Professor at Olivet University’s Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies. For 39 years he served as the Associate Pastor of Music & Worship at Trinity Church, Livermore, California. His December activities this year in Livermore will include a community Messiah-Sing-Along, another Carol Sing, and helping a local church with their Christmas program.
“Singing is a great way to begin our December celebrations,” stated Smoak, “Let’s join together and sing our favorite Christmas carols such as Angels We Have Heard on High, Go Tell It on the Mountain, and Silent Night! Holy Night!”
The pianist and accompanist for the Carol Sing will be Rebecca Roberts of Pleasanton, Calif. Roberts is an accomplished pianist and recording artist with four published CDs entitled “New Beginnings,” “A Step Closer,” “Authentic Then and Now,” and her Christmas CD “Another Reason.” Her keyboard arrangements include hymn tunes mixed with pop-favorites and classics from well-known composers. For 27 years she worked with Smoak at Trinity Church, Livermore as the church pianist. The singing of the Christmas carols will be well supported by her keyboard expertise and styling.
