We look ahead to Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes with our PSG vs Tottenham prediction and preview.
PSG vs Tottenham: The Key Stats
PSG are the clear favourites here, with the Opta supercomputer giving them a 62.9% chance of victory to Spurs’ 17.3%. Luis Enrique’s side are joint-top scorers in the Champions League this season, alongside Bayern Munich, having managed 14 goals across their four matches so far. This will be just the second meeting between these two sides in European competition following the UEFA Super Cup in August, when the Parisians fought back to triumph on penalties.Tottenham Hotspur will hope to bounce back from their crushing weekend defeat to rivals Arsenal when they return to Champions League action on Wednesday, though the task in front of them doesn’t look much easier as they visit title holders Paris Saint-Germain.
Thomas Frank’s side suffered their worst defeat of the season on Sunday, losing 4-1 in the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium as Eberechi Eze – a summer transfer target of Spurs – rubbed salt in their wounds with a stunning hat-trick.
The loss followed a string of disappointing results for Spurs, who have struggled for consistency after a bright start to Frank’s tenure.
Elimination from the EFL Cup at the hands of Newcastle United in October was followed by a challenging run of Premier League fixtures that has seen them lose to Chelsea, draw with Manchester United, and fall again to Arsenal at the weekend.
Spurs did enjoy a dominant 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen in their last Champions League outing, but a trip to the defending European champions hardly represents the ideal test at this challenging moment, with growing concerns at both ends of the pitch for Frank’s side.
After conceding the opening goal in only three of their first nine Premier League matches this season, Spurs have now frustratingly done so in each of their last three.
Their defensive form in Europe tells a different story, though, for what it’s worth. They have recorded an impressive seven clean sheets from their 13 games across the Champions League and Europa League in 2025 – the most of any team in major European competition this calendar year.
In their win over Copenhagen, they faced shots worth only 0.35 expected goals (xG), their lowest xG against (xGA) in a Champions League match since February 2019, when they restricted Borussia Dortmund to just 0.10 xG.
Despite the intimidating obstacle PSG represent to Spurs, the 2024-25 Champions League winners haven’t quite hit the heights of last season’s treble-winning campaign yet. Albeit that is partly down to significant injuries.
Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé has made just 10 appearances this season and remains a doubt for Wednesday’s clash due a calf injury, while breakout star Desiré Doué is sidelined with a hamstring issue.
In their loss to Bayern Munich on Matchday 4, PSG were dealt another heavy blow as Achraf Hakimi injured his ankle following a rough challenge from Luis Díaz. The Morocco international isn’t expected to play again for PSG before heading off to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, meaning Luis Enrique will have to find creative solutions to his selections at right-back.
One possible makeshift option, and the one used in PSG’s routine 3-0 win over Le Havre on Saturday, would be to play 19-year-old midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery there.
Indeed, Luis Enrique has relied heavily on youth across his tenure in the French capital, with 13 of PSG’s 52 goals in the Champions League since the start of last season coming from players aged 21 or younger (25%).
PSG have been quite adept at spreading the goals around their squad, but with Dembélé and Doué sidelined, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia may have to shoulder more of the attacking burden.
The Georgian came off the bench against Le Havre and provided a lovely assist to Bradley Barcola for the Parisians’ third goal of the night.
PSG have won six of their last seven in the league phase of the Champions League, scoring at an average of 3.6 goals per match across that run.
Both PSG and Tottenham are among the five teams still unbeaten in the competition going into Matchday 5 (along with Bayern, Inter, Arsenal and Manchester City), though Spurs are the only side among these to have not won their first four matches (two wins, two draws).
PSG vs Tottenham Head-to-Head
Paris Saint-Germain met Tottenham for the very first time in major European competition a little over three months ago in the UEFA Super Cup, and it was indeed a clash to savour.
PSG took some time to shake off the post-summer rust as they slipped into a 2-0 deficit before scoring two dramatic goals late on to make it 2-2 and force a penalty shootout, which they clinically won.
The Parisians have lost just one of their last six Champions League home matches against English opposition (four wins, one draw) – a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the last-16 first leg last season.
Spurs, meanwhile, have lost only two of their last 13 matches against Ligue 1 opponents in European competition (six wins, five draws), with their last away match a goalless draw with Monaco last month.
