Greenwich and Ridgefield keep going back and forth when it comes to winning the State Open Championships in Connecticut.

The teams have alternated winning the meet over the last five years, and this year it was Greenwich’s turn, as it outlasted runner-up Ridgefield by more than 100 points.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference State Open Championships combine the top 24 finishers from each of the four class state meets into one overall championship meet.

Here were the champions of the other class meets:

Weston High School won the Class S title, winning its 12th straight. In Class M, Wethersfield High School won its first ever state championship in Lee Schwartzman’s 19th year as coach. Wethersfield edged out four-time defending class champion Pomperaug by 13 points. Ridgefield took the title in Class L, its second straight. Greenwich won the Class LL title, securing a state record 1,038.5 points.

That set the stage for the open championships, won for the 22nd time by Greenwich.

Leading the way for Greenwich was senior Wesley Wales, who first swam a personal best time of 1:50.75 to win the 200 free after placing 2nd in the event last year.

The individual star of the meet was Manchester senior Riley Anderson, a Duke commit.

Anderson set a state open record with a time of 22.39 to win the 50 free and repeat as champion in the event. Anderson holds the fifth-fastest time in the 50 free in the 17-18 age group after swimming a time of 22.20 at the Class LL meet.

Later, Anderson won the 100 fly in 53.45.

The 200 medley relay was won by Ridgefield’s team of Mairead Luhman (27.82), Dalia Kara (29.58), Zsofia Milak (25.70) and Ellie Griffin (24.17) in a time of 1:47.27.
