When it comes to the culture of the Phoenix Suns, guard Jordan Goodwin stressed the importance of the team having strong chemistry on and off the court.
Goodwin joined Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Friday and said the team’s camaraderie off the court has been one of the big reasons behind the Suns’ 8-5 start to the season.
“We’re definitely clicking and we definitely have a good chemistry. I think how well we treat each other off the court is making a really big difference on how we play on the court,” Goodwin said. “It’s a good group, everybody likes each other and is excited to come to work.”

Through 10 games, Goodwin has averaged 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and two assists while shooting 38.9 percent from the field.
Goodwin added that the Suns have done a good job being aggressive on defense which makes the team much tougher to play against when they are making their shots.
“I think our goal is every game is to go out there and cause chaos,” Goodwin said. “On the other side, we’ve got a lot of players that can make shots so you kind of get the best of both worlds.”
Goodwin credits leadership with Suns culture change
Goodwin added that the success they’ve achieved so far starts with leadership from everybody, but noted that Devin Booker and Dillon Brooks have been a big part of it.
“It starts with Book. That’s the snake and that’s our guy,” Goodwin said. “Then it trickles down. You got Dillon. He’s our passionate leader and I think he’s the one who gets everybody going on the court when he starts being himself out there and he’s bringing that energy.”

Goodwin also highlighted Jordan Ott’s honesty and fairness when coaching the team.
“One thing I like about him is how he holds everybody accountable. He treats Book the same way he treats me. He treats everybody the same and he’s not afraid to call people out and he also listens to us too,” Goodwin said. “If he feels like there is something we can change, he wants to hear our opinions on it and I think that stands out for a head coach for sure.”
Mat Ishbia shouts out Goodwin, rest of Suns for new mentality
Suns owner Mat Ishbia joined Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Friday and said the team’s effort and mentality on the court has drastically changed since last season.
“We’ve set our identity, vision and the culture and the guys are executing,” Ishbia said. “Dillon Brooks has done an amazing job bringing that mentality and Booker has been great. Even guys like Jordan Goodwin are coming in diving on the court when we are up 45 points and throwing the ball to Isaiah Livers for a dunk.
“We’re diving, we’re competing and hustling. We are not gonna win every game, but we are out there playing hard, we are fun to watch and that’s what the Valley deserves.”
