In a piece of good news for the India National Cricket Team, the Test and ODI skipper, Shubman Gill, has been discharged from the hospital after suffering a neck injury during the first Test match against the South Africa National Cricket Team.
Although Shubman Gill has been discharged, he remains doubtful for the second Test match against the Temba Bavuma-led side, which is set to be played in Guwahati from November 22.
Gill has emerged as one of India's best batters since taking over the Test captaincy, and he was expected to play a major role for the side in the home series against the World Test Champions.
However, on Day 2 of the match, he retired hurt, clutching the back of his neck after facing just three balls. On the same day, he was stretchered off from the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and was hospitalised following neck spasms.
The concerns increased when he was seen wearing a neck brace, and on the third and last day of the match, the BCCI announced that the skipper wouldn't be able to participate in the rest of the Test match, which is why he didn't come out to bat during the run chase.
Notably, the bowling coach Morne Morkel had revealed that Gill had woken up with a stiff neck after Day 1 of the game, and he was even spotted by the broadcasters doing neck exercises before the start of Day 2.
Shubman Gill's pain has subsided
On Sunday, November 16, RevSportz reported that Shubman Gill's pain has subsided and he has been advised 4-5 days of rest, putting his participation in the second Test in doubt.
The same media outlet revealed that the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President, Sourav Ganguly, paid a visit to the Indian skipper at the hospital.
"Breaking: Shubman Gill has been released from hospital. His pain has subsided, but he has been advised 4-5 days of rest. His participation in the Guwahati Test hangs in the balance," RevSportz wrote on X.

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Irfan Pathan talked about India's shocking 30-run loss in the first Test. He said that India should play on pitches that turn from the fourth and fifth day and not on day one itself. He said:
"There have been statements coming out that India didn’t request for such pitches but it came out a few days later that the Indian team did ask for them. It’s contradictory. But they have to play on whatever the pitch is. When we tour, we have such good options of fast bowlers that India perform better and sometimes their batters struggle.
"We get a chance to win. Similarly, if there is plenty of help on pitches in India, opposition bowlers will come into play because our skill has downgraded. In my opinion, it’s better to play on tracks that turn on days fourth and fifth instead of those that go up and down so early."
