Sarah Ferguson’s new children’s book is withdrawn from sale

Sarah Ferguson‘s latest book, whose publishing date had already been delayed by over a month, has been removed from sale by her publisher.

Last month, Waterstones told BBC News that Ferguson’s most recent story for children, Flora And Fern: Kindness Along The Way, had had its publishing date “changed “moved” from October 9, and a new one had not been confirmed.

As recently as last week, Amazon showed the book as being available from 20 November, but it has now been removed altogether.

The analytics firm NielsenIQ Book Data has told the BBC that it had been marked as “withdrawn from sale” at the request of the publisher.

The BBC reports that Ms Ferguson’s representatives declined to comment, and that her publisher, New Frontier Publishing, had not responded to “multiple requests” for comment.

More than 50 children’s books have been published under Sarah Ferguson’s name and, like them, Flora And Fern: Kindness Along The Way features the author’s former title, the Duchess of York.

Ms Ferguson’s other publishers have not declared whether they will part ways.

Harper Collins, which has published two romance novels inspired by Ferguson’s family history, also with her Duchess of York title prominent on the cover, had previously declined to comment but indicated that both titles remain in print and available.

Regarding Ferguson’s withdrawn children’s title, Neill Denny, of the book trade news website Book Brunch, said it “makes total sense commercially” and that “it’s not the right time to release a book by Sarah Ferguson.”

He added that they might decide to “sit on it” for six months or more: “It’s not the sort of book that’s going to age, and you’re not risking a lot of money by holding it back.”

In September, Ferguson was removed as patron by five organisations – children’s hospice Julia’s House, food allergy charity The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, the Children’s Literacy Charity, Teenage Cancer Trust and Prevent Breast Cancer – due to correspondence between Ferguson and the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein coming to light in which she called him “my supreme friend”.

She was also dropped as ambassador of the heart health charity British Heart Foundation.

Nadim and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse, founders of The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, said: “We were disturbed to read of Sarah, Duchess of York’s, correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein.

“Sarah Ferguson has not been actively involved with the charity for some years. She was a patron but, in the light of the recent revelations, we have taken the decision that it would be inappropriate for her to continue to be associated with the charity. We would like to thank her for her kindness and support in the past.”

The Children’s Literacy Charity said it has asked the duchess to step down as patron as it would be “inappropriate” for her to continue her role “given the recent information which has come to light about the Duchess of York and Jeffrey Epstein”.

‘Cut adrift’: The dwindling options for Sarah Ferguson in royal exile

by Richard Palmer and Adam Sherwin

Ferguson, 66, will lose her home when she and the now untitled Andrew Mountbatten Windsor are forced to move out of Royal Lodge, the 30-room mansion she has shared with her ex-husband since 2008, within the next few months.

Although the King has made it clear he feels his responsibility ends at finding a home for Mr Mountbatten Windsor, he is not opposed to Ferguson joining his brother there if they both want that. “It’s a matter for them,” a royal source said.

“She’s been cut adrift,” a friend of Ferguson said. “I’m trying to keep her spirits up but when I spoke to her, she seemed very lonely and isolated.”

Her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, and ex-husband have remained loyal, the longtime friend insisted. But Ferguson, notorious for running up staggering debts, did not have anywhere to go.

She lost her Duchess of York title, along with most of her earning capacity, when she was engulfed in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, which saw her ex-husband, Mr Mountbatten Windsor, stripped of his royal honours.

In an email Ferguson wrote to billionaire paedophile Epstein – written in 2011 but made public in September this year – she apologised profusely for disassociating from him publicly following his 2008 conviction for procuring a girl under 18 for sex.

The source said it was written in panic without advice because Ferguson feared the financier would successfully sue her for libel, insisting she had not committed any crimes and was only guilty of being hapless. “If there was a Second World War bomb in Piccadilly, Sarah would step on it and set it off,” he said.
