Called VA4, the project involves three data centres on 82 acres with a built area of 929,000 sq ft, close to Vantage’s three existing campuses in northern Virginia.
The development will increase Virginia’s data centre capacity to 782MW, worth approximately $8bn.
The campus will be built to achieve LEED certification, operating with a closed-loop chilled water system, able to fully power IT workloads on site.
Juan Pablo Segura, Virginia’s secretary of commerce and trade, said: “As AI promises to transform the way we live and work, data centre development like Vantage’s VA4 campus are placing Virginia at the centre of it all.
“By moving at the speed of business, we are ensuring that these centres can begin serving communities and providing vital revenue for many years to come.”
When operational in 2027 the project will create 50 new jobs.
Vantage opened its first data centre in California in 2010 and now has 30 campuses in five countries.
