A Westport man was arrested recently with an illegal shotgun and ammunition, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the MCSO, deputies were searching early this week for a man identified as Jeremy J. Jones, 50, of Westport, who was reportedly wanted for illegal possession of a firearm and for negligent discharge of a firearm.
While checking the area of DeHaven Creek Road in Westport around 9:40 p.m. Nov. 9, deputies reported finding Jones’ vehicle parked in front of a residence and contacting the suspect inside.
The MCSO reports that Jones was living at the residence, which they searched due to the suspect being “on active felony probation (for Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm) and having a search term as part of his probation.”
Inside the home, deputies reported finding “a 12-gauge shotgun, a .22 caliber rifle, and containers of live ammunition, which Jones is prohibited from possessing due to numerous prior criminal convictions. Deputies also located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside Jones’ residence.”
Jones was then arrested and booked into Mendocino County Jail under $65,000 bail on suspicion of illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and a Mendocino County warrant for “Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm and Discharging of a Firearm in Negligent Manner.”
