Chris Cornell’s Daughter Toni Brings Rock Hall to Tears With Emotional Tribute

Chris Cornell was honored by his family at the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. On Nov. 8, the late Soundgarden singer, who died in 2017, was remembered at the band’s induction ceremony by his eldest daughter Lily, who posthumously inducted him into the Rock Hall alongside Jim Carrey.

After performances of “Rusty Cage” and “Black Hole Sun” by the surviving Soundgarden members and some all-star friends, Cornell’s daughter, Toni, took the stage to perform an acoustic version of the song “Fell on Black Days” with Heart legend Nancy Wilson on guitar. Toni delivered a powerful performance of the song that her father wrote for Soundgarden’s 1995 album “Superunknown.”

Fans reacted to the performance on social media, with many calling it “beautiful” and “emotional.”

“Beautiful tribute to her Dad. Her voice is amazing. It holds the same emotional power as her Dad," one commenter wrote on Instagram.

“Beautifully haunting. Emotional ❤️,” another agreed.

“So powerful, so amazing and touching your father is watching over you God Bless with ALOHA ?️,” another fan wrote.

“I've refused to listen to this song since the day Chris died. Today? Well, you got a 43-year-old weeping here. God I wish Chris was alive to see all this,” another fan wrote on Reddit.

Following the performance, Toni, 21, told Rolling Stone she was “honored” to perform at the ceremony in tribute to her father. Of the song choice, she explained, “Everyone can relate that song on so many levels, like I fell on black days. We’ve all been there. So I personally related to that, and I really wanted to channel how my dad would have performed that song on his own.”

“I just wish he were here to see this tremendous honor for himself,” she added. “I know how proud he would have been, but he’s the only reason why I do music, so being here and being able to share my voice because of him, is amazing.”

This is not the first time Toni has delivered a heart-wrenching performance. In 2021, she appeared on The Tonight Show to perform a moving rendition of the ballad “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which was featured on her father’s posthumous covers compilation album,  No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1, per Billboard.

She also performed an acoustic rendition of Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike" for MusiCares’ COVID-19 relief efforts in 2021.

“Sitting in my dad's home studio during this crazy time makes me miss him even more,” Toni wrote on Instagram at the time. “Music is the greatest healer and the most powerful way to bring people together, especially during tragedy. If my dad were here, I know he would have been the first to donate his time and effort. Thank you for including me, I am honored to be part of this and to help spread love through music.”
