She is the headline swimmer again this year as a senior after she broke the pool record in the women’s 200 backstroke with her time of 1:52.28. This swim broke her own record time of 1:52.89 from last year, and was just about a second off her team record time of 1:52.23 from last season’s NCAA Championships.

Riordan also won the 100 backstroke in 52.04, a few tenths off her school record time of 51.78, and she swam the backstroke leg of the winning Gamecock 200 medley relay. She split 24.69 to touch just behind UNC’s Sophie Frei on the first leg.

The breaststroke saw South Carolina’s Elizabeth Goodwin-Birni split 27.75 to take over the lead for the Gamecocks ahead of UNC’s Samantha Armand‘s 28.10.

Taylor Grimley swam the fly in 23.97 for South Carolina, coming in just behind Tar Heel Kamryn Meeskill, who was 23.50. The freestyle leg saw Gamecock sprinter Dylan Scholes split 21.65 to retake the lead ahead of UNC’s Eden Goettsch‘s 22.14. South Carolina touched in 1:38.06 to edge out UNC’s 1:38.27 by a little over two tenths.

Finally, Riordan was a member of South Carolina’s 2nd place 400 freestyle relay team. She led off in 49.50 to get the Gamecocks out to a two tenth lead over Michaela Chokureva‘s 49.74 for UNC.

South Carolina held onto that lead through the 2nd 100 with Dylan Scholes splitting 49.01 to Mackenzie Headley‘s 50.17. The tide started turning on the 3rd leg with Tar Heel Maren Conze splitting 49.84 to Sofia Luper‘s 50.04 for the Gamecocks, but the biggest difference maker was the final 100 where freshman Kamryn Meskill had a monster 48.18 split to surge past Ellery Ottem‘s 49.79 anchor for South Carolina. Meskill touched in 3:17.93 to win by four tenths over the Gamecocks’ 3:18.34.

The South Carolina women followed the trend they have set through the first half of this season, winning all four 200s over the course of the meet.

They started with an event win in the 200 freestyle with Breckin Gormley‘s 1:47.15 coming in eight tenths ahead of teammate Ellery Ottem‘s 1:47.95. Gormely’s swim was just off her personal and season best time of 1:46.55 from South Carolina’s meet with Florida State last weekend. She also won the 500 freestyle in 4:46.51, three tenths ahead of Nora Fluck‘s 4:46.83.

Jordan Agliano won the women’s 200 fly in 1:56.05, more than a second ahead of UNC’s Taylor Bloom, who swam 1:57.40 for 2nd. This swim was only three tenths off her lifetime best of 1:55.75 from November of 2023, and was her 2nd fastest time ever. Agliano also finished 2nd in the 100 fly to teammate Taylor Grimley, who won the event in 53.77.

Delaney Franklin won the final 200 of the day, the women’s 200 breaststroke, in 2:10.58. She touched three seconds ahead of UNC’s Samantha Armand, who was 2:13.54 in 2nd place. Franklin’s swim was a new season best time, dropping from the 2:10.81 she swam at the beginning of October, and was just three tenths over the 2:10.26 she swam at last year’s SEC Championships.

South Carolina’s two other individual event wins came in the 1000 freestyle, with Nora Fluck‘s 9:44.12, just off the 9:43.64 personal best time she set last week, and the 50 free, with Dylan Scholes touching in 22.55 to win by just two hundredths over UNC’s Kamryn Meskill.

Finally, they took both diving events with Sophie Verzyl winning the 1-meter in 342.75 and the 3-meter in 347.03.

The Tar Heels had a few event wins of their own on the women’s side, on top of their win in the 400 freestyle relay. Michaela Chokureva won the women’s 100 freestyle in 49.35, touching less than a tenth ahead of Scholes who swam 49.44. This was a new best time for Chokureva, whose previous best stood at 49.51 from the UVA vs UNC meet.

Samantha Armand won the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:01.44, out touching Gamecock breaststroker Caroline Kudela‘s 1:01.70 for 2nd. Armand’s time was about a second off the 1:00.43 mark she swam against Virginia two weeks ago.

Finally, Mary Macaulay won the 400 IM in 4:12.34, touching just four hundredths ahead of teammate Aislin Farris, who swam 4:12.39 for the silver. Her best time stands at 4:10.98 from last season’s Gamecock Invite.

    Men’s Meet

The UNC men came out on top for the 5th straight meet, with their most recent loss coming in 2020. Today, they won 174.5 to 125.5, outscoring the Gamecocks by nearly 30 points.

Their first win of the meet came from Louis Dramm‘s 1:35.47 in the 200 freestyle. Dramm touched about half-a-second ahead of teammate David Quaresma‘s 1:35.92. He added a little more than a second from the 1:34.16 best time he swam against Virginia a few weeks ago.

Dramm and Quaresma finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 free as well with Dramm swimming 43.39 to come in seven tenths ahead of Quaresma’s 43.92.

Dramm was not the only multi-event winner for the Tar Heels. UNC’s Ben Delmar won three events over the course of the day, racking up 27 points for the team. He started with a win in the 100 breaststroke with his swim of 52.17 winning the event by a second. This time will move him up to 9th in the country this season.

Delmar also won the 200 breast in 1:52.49, coming in six seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher, and moving up to 3rd in the country this season, only behind Yamato Okadome and Nate Germonprez.

Finally, he won the 400 IM by six seconds, touching in 3:45.33, the 7th fastest time in the country this season. He was five seconds off his lifetime best of 3:40.61 from last year’s ACC Championships.

UNC’s other individual event winners were Sean Setzer (50 free- 20.09), and JT Schmid (200 back- 1:43.34).

They also won the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Louis Dramm (43.19), Sam Huggins (44.31), David Quaresma (43.48), and Sean Setzer (43.28) touching in 2:54.26.

South Carolina’s Eldor Usmonov had the fastest split on the 400 freestyle relay with the 42.61 he swam to anchor the Gamecocks to 2:54.49.

Usmonov also won the men’s 100 butterfly for South Carolina, swimming 46.72 to win by two tenths over UNC’s Seb Lunak, and he swam the fly leg on South Carolina’s winning 200 medley relay.

Ryan Hufford led off in 21.76. Einar Margeir Agustsson swam 24.04 on the breast. Usmonov split 19.99 on the fly, and Quinn Buck was 19.86 on the freestyle leg to anchor the team in 1:25.65.

Hufford went on to win the 100 back in 47.23, touching seven tenths ahead of UNC’s JT Schmid, who swam 47.93 for 2nd.
