Times of San Diego is rolling out a new print layout for each of the community newspapers in the news group.

Four of the seven community papers — La Jolla Village News, Beach & Bay Press, Downtown News and Uptown News — will debut the new design when they are distributed Friday.

Peninsula Beacon and Mission Times Courier will be delivered with a new look on Nov. 14. The La Mesa Courier will be the last to roll out the new look on Nov. 28.

While the goal of the redesign is to bring a fresh look and feel to the papers, Julie Main, Times of San Diego’s Operations & Community Relations Manager, said, during the process they considered how to complete the redesign without compromising quality.

“Printing right now is a big challenge,” Main said. “The print size of this layout is going to be more cost effective which is important to keep our costs down as a non-profit.”

Main said that the effort to redesign also contributes to better journalism down the line.

“All that budget concern is key to having the funding go where we believe it should go, and that’s to the journalism we provide,” she said.
