Nelson, Mamaril, Romero, William & Mary, Harvard Earn FCS Football Awards (Week 10)

Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors throughout the regular season and will lead toward the annual season-ending Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Monmouth’s Rodney Nelson, Portland State’s Carsten Mamaril, the William & Mary special teams unit and Wagner’s Nicholas Romero were selected on Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for Week 10 college football games this past weekend.

In addition, the Harvard Crimson were named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.

The weekly honors lead up to the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The season-ending awards are in their 39th year.

The five honorees plus honorable mention selections for the FCS National Awards:

FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

    Rodney Nelson, Monmouth, RB, R-So., 5-8, 195

As Monmouth (8-1) continued to lean on Nelson’s production, he had career highs for carries (34), rushing yards (244) and all-purpose yards (306), and rushed for two touchdowns in a 38-7 CAA win at Bryant. His 49- and 13-yard receptions were on drives that ended with teammates scoring TDs. His all-purpose yards are the second most by an FCS player this season, and he’s first in games with 100+ rushing yards (eight) and 200+ rushing yards (three).

Honorable Mention: Jaden Craig, QB, Harvard; Dason Brooks, RB, Idaho State; Jihad Marks, WR, The Citadel; Andy Peters, QB, St. Thomas; Chauncey Spikes, WR, North Carolina Central

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week

Carsten Mamaril, Portland State, DB, Jr., 5-10, 180

Mamaril had a hand – literally – in Portland State’s first win of the season, 40-35 at Cal Poly in the Big Sky Conference. He had two interceptions and broke up three other passes, and collected both a solo tackle and an assist. His second pick occurred in Cal Poly territory late in the third quarter and set up the Vikings offense for a touchdown that provided a 40-28 lead.

Honorable Mention: Phillip Bradford, DE, McNeese; Lee Bruner IV, DB, Richmond; Latrell Couchman, LB, Maine; Donovan Grayson, DE, Samford; Maurice LaPierre, DE, Tennessee Tech; Christian Magliacano, LB, Colgate; Rashon Myles Jr., LB, Abilene Christian; Tyler Ochojski, LB, Lehigh; Maximus Pulley, DB, Wofford; Jack Stoll, LB, Central Connecticut State

FCS National Special Teams Players of the Week

    William & Mary Tribe

In a twist, the entire special teams unit is being honored for its complete performance during a 37-7 victory over UAlbany in the CAA. The Tribe opened the scoring with holder Joey Tomasso running in from 5 yards out on a fake field goal. Josh Miller, Stephon Hicks and Xavier Dillard then blocked punts that resulted in safeties. For Hicks, it was his third block of the season, which is tied for the FCS high. UAlbany only returned one of W&M’s 10 combined kickoffs and punts, resulting in zero yards.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Brown, PK, North Carolina A&T; Delano Franklin, PR, Grambling State; Okhai Joseph, PR, Southeastern Louisiana; Rashad Rochelle, KR/WR, Indiana State; Javon Ross, KR/WR, Bethune-Cookman; Trajan Sinatra, PK, Idaho State; Jackson Williams, Return, North Dakota State

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week

Nicholas Romero, Wagner, PK, Fr., 5-9, 162

Romero delivered a 28-yard field goal as time expired to lift Wagner to a 23-20 win at Saint Francis in NEC Football. The true freshman from Florida accounted for 11 points in a perfect kicking performance, also connecting on field goals of 37 and 44 (a career long) yards and two extra points. He added one kickoff of 66 yards.

Honorable Mention: Braden Atkinson, QB, Mercer; Chase Bingmon, RB, Prairie View A&M; Matt Fogler, PK, Colgate; Noah Grevious, WR, VMI; Nick Herman, RB, Drake; Nic Yatsko, DB, Indiana State

FCS National Team of the Week

    Harvard (31-10 win over Dartmouth)

Former Harvard coach Tim Murphy concluded the broadcast by comparing the Ivy League-leading Crimson (7-0) to his 10-0 2004 team that was led by Ryan Fitzpatrick. In the matchup of two two-time defending champions, Harvard beat its rival behind Jaden Craig (322 passing yards, four TD passes to reach a program-record 43 in his career) and a strong defense (261 yards allowed). Coach Andrew Aurich’s squad, which leads the FCS in scoring defense, has won every game by at least 21 points.

Honorable Mention: Abilene Christian (31-28 win over Tarleton State); Idaho State (38-36 win at UC Davis); Indiana State (24-12 win at South Dakota State)
