Angela Bassett Revives Iconic Black Panther Role in Stunning Runway Appearance

Angela Bassett brought the Wakanda spirit to life once again as the legendary actress made a surprise appearance at Vogue World: Hollywood.

Among the high-profile cameos was the 67-year-old actress who exuded major royalty vibes as she returned to her iconic role on the runway.

For the special event, Bassett reprised her Black Panther character, strutting the runway in her Queen Ramonda look.

The head-turning ensemble featured a structured gown in royal shades of purple, black and gold, colors associated with the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda in the Marvel Universe.

The sculptural silhouette struck the perfect balance between power and grace, mirroring Queen Ramonda’s unmatched poise and royal command.

“BOW DOWN TO THE QUEEN,” one wrote.

“The Queen has ARRIVED,” a second user said.

    “????? ?????? ???????!” a commenter added.

“Wow, she is a queen!!” another echoed.

While fans continued to praise her queenly grace, others flooded the comments with admiration.

“Epitome of beauty,” a follower noted.

The same goes for a different user who said, “Wow, a truly Hollywood legend. The Queen has arrived.”

Bassett’s Black Panther look was created by award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter, who also took home the prestigious Oscar in 2019 for her work in the MCU movie.

According to her, she conducted extensive research and study of traditional practices and looks of different African tribes to come up with the costumes.

"We created lots of mood boards that showed you the different indigenous tribes and what that look like," she told NPRin 2013, adding, "There's thousands of tribes throughout the continent of Africa, and we picked eight or 12 of them to represent the tribes of Wakanda."

As for the iconic star, she also earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Ramonda.

In her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to her late co-star Chadwick Boseman, who played King T'Challa and the son of Queen Ramonda.

"He was just a source of great inspiration for all of us, and when he was not there in the physical, he most definitely was there in the spiritual," she said. "He was with us, every single day. Even when it got difficult or hard or things sort of fell apart along the way, you knew that you couldn't sit down. You couldn't rest. You couldn't give up because we had had an example set for us.”

Moreover, she expressed how “very proud” she was to accept the recognition as Chadwick’s “mother and colleague.”
