All-Time Postseason Moments, World Series Logos, Ohtani Feats, and Other Cubs Bullets

On the one hand, I want to tell the kiddos some really scary stories for Halloween. On the other hand, I don’t really want to deal with the fallout of them being, you know, scared. Parenting is tough, man.

Thoughts on this year’s super-scripty World Series logo? I kinda like it:

    — MLB (@MLB) October 22, 2025 Is it better than the most recent ones, though? Here’s a look at the last 50 years:

    — Chris Creamer | SportsLogos.net (@sportslogosnet) May 1, 2024 I’m partial to 2016 for obvious sentimental reasons, though I also dig the retro weirdness of 2001, and the aesthetics of 2019. All in all, best for me is probably 2022. My initial reaction to this was a simple wtf:

The most valuable hits in the MLB playoffs since 2000:1. Yordan Alvarez vs. Mariners2. Jimmy Rollins vs. Dodgers3. Brett Phillips vs. Dodgers4. Oscar Gonzalez vs. YankeesT-5. Ivan Rodriguez vs. GiantsT-5. Freddie Freeman vs. Yankees pic.twitter.com/lPqd89xdXN

    — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) October 21, 2025 Watching the video, though, I now understand the list. It’s just pure Win Probability Added FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL GAME among plays that took place in the postseason since 2000. So that is why the list is going to be made up more or less entirely of moments that were (1) late in the game, and (2) took a team from trailing to leading. Those are the largest possible WPA swings available in a game. … in other words, that is NOT really a list of the “most valuable hits” in the postseason since 2000, at least not the way we would talk colloquially about those words. What you really want is a list of hits that had the biggest Championship Win Probability Swings, and we already know which one was the biggest on that front: the Rajai Davis homer off of Aroldis Chapman. Oh.

    — Will Maddux (@MLBMetrics) February 6, 2022 That’s just math, even though the Guardians didn’t wind up winning the championship. Technically, the Ben Zobrist double comes in at number three:

    — Will Maddux (@MLBMetrics) February 6, 2022 Forget the math. It was Zobrist’s hit. That was the biggest hit in baseball history. Period. No arguments. Speaking of the postseason, although it doesn’t FEEL like it’s been an eternity since the Cubs were in the NLCS, it is factually true that more than half the league has been to an LCS more recently than the Cubs:

    Last Year They Played In The League Championship:2025 LAD MIL SEA TOR2024 CLE NYM NYY2023 ARI HOU PHI TEX2022 SD2021 ATL BOS2020 TB2019 STL WSH2017 CHC2015 KC2014 BAL SF2013 DET2009 LAA2007 COL2006 ATH2005 CWS2003 MIA2002 MIN1995 CIN1992 PIT

    — Codify (@CodifyBaseball) October 21, 2025 Obviously there’s plenty of randomness in the postseason, and the Cubs were a couple runs away from getting back to the NLCS this year. But the other thing is, when you make the postseason just three times in eight years (one of which was a Wild Card one-gamer), your chances of getting to an LCS are naturally going to be pretty low. lol, ok:

@robparkerMLBbro on Shohei Ohtani: "People have hit 3 home runs in a game…What he did pitching-wise was not that impressive against THIS Milwaukee Brewers team."@Kdubblive: "You are in an insane asylum screaming in a room by yourself." pic.twitter.com/WiuO2UfuTB

    — FOX Sports Radio (@FoxSportsRadio) October 21, 2025 I particularly loved the part where he tried to argue that it’s NOT that impressive that Shohei Ohtani is the first guy since Babe Ruth to do X, Y, and Z as a pitcher and a hitter, since those are the only two guys to do it. As if the things Ohtani is doing could be done by lots of other guys if they would simply try both hitting and pitching. Dude missed the entire point and accidentally made the best argument for why Ohtani’s feats ARE that impressive. Darn straight:
