Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool Prediction: Reds Aim to Halt Losing Streak

We look ahead to Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League game at Deutsche Bank Park with our Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool prediction and preview. Will Hugo Ekitiké haunt his former club?

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool: The Key Stats

Liverpool are likelier to win than not, with the Opta supercomputer rating their chances of victory against Eintracht Frankfurt at 56.3%. The Reds have only lost one of their last 15 matches against German teams in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. Mohamed Salah has scored 15 goals in his last 19 games away from home in the competition.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool have had similar UEFA Champions League campaigns this season. Both teams won their opening match at home before losing on the road last time out.

They have also, curiously, played the same two opponents, with differing results. Eintracht thrashed Galatasaray 5-1 before losing to Atlético Madrid by the same score, while Liverpool beat Atlético 3-2 at Anfield before going down 1-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul.

The poor form of both sides extends beyond that last European matchday. Dino Toppmöller’s side have lost three of their last five matches in all competitions. Eintracht were 2-1 up at Freiburg on Sunday but conceded an 87th minute equaliser to leave them with just one victory in the last month.

What Liverpool wouldn’t give to only see potential wins become draws through late goals, though. Following their 2-1 home defeat to rivals Manchester United on Sunday, the Reds have lost four consecutive matches for the first time in over a decade, with three of them thanks to goals conceded in the 84th minute or later. Their early season form has flipped in painful fashion.

While they are in almost equally poor form, Arne Slot’s men do hold a distinct advantage in the chance creation stakes.

Eintracht haven’t mustered more than 0.89 expected goals (xG) in any of their last three matches. This is significantly below the minimum of 1.81 xG that the Reds have posted in each of their four defeats. Across this sequence they have scored three goals from 8.64 xG, suggesting their form in front of goal is due to change for the better.

It remains to be seen if this occurs at Deutsche Bank Park. Slot has lost more games (five) than he has won (four) away from home in this competition, after all. It seems reasonable to assume Liverpool won’t have problems creating chances, though.

As mentioned, Eintracht were beaten 5-1 by Atlético Madrid on MD2; their joint-heaviest defeat in the European Cup/Champions League. Their xG against total in the game (4.44) was the second worst by a team in a single UCL match this season, after Pafos (4.54) vs Bayern Munich.

If the home defence is open, this game could represent an opportunity for Mohamed Salah to rediscover his form. The Egyptian has not recorded a goal involvement in any of his last four games at club level. He has, though, scored 15 goals in his last 19 games on the road in the Champions League, with his overall total of 22 away from home in this competition the most by any Liverpool player in history.

Former Eintracht man Hugo Ekitiké may start alongside Salah, given he was on the bench for the defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. Three players who won’t be involved thanks to injury are Alisson Becker, Wataru Endō and Giovanni Leoni.

The home side should be similarly close to full strength as only Elias Baum, Nnamdi Collins and Jessic Ngankam are in danger of missing the match. Can Uzun and Ritsu Doan will be a threat for the hosts, but possibly more than anyone, Toppmöller will be thankful Jonathan Burkardt is available.

The former Mainz striker has six goals and an assist in his previous six club matches, a spell that includes two European games. Burkardt is one of only three Frankfurt players to score in their first two appearances in the European Cup/Champions League, along with Erich Bäumler in November 1959 and Erich Meier in March 1960.

History suggests Liverpool won’t lose a fifth game in a row, and not just because this is already their longest string of defeats since 2014. The Reds might have lost two of their last three games in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, but one was a dead rubber against PSV Eindhoven after they had already qualified last season.

Prior to that, Liverpool had lost just twice in their previous 30 matches in the group/league phase of the competition, winning 26 of them. With morale in his squad presumably low, Slot needs to remind his troops of their strength in the early stage of the Champions League.

    Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool Head-to-Head

There is no recent history between these teams, with their only previous meetings occurring in the first round of the 1972-73 UEFA Cup. Liverpool won 2-0 on aggregate, for what it’s worth.

But the Reds have been excellent against Bundesliga sides in the last two decades. Liverpool have lost just one of their last 15 matches against German teams in the European Cup/Champions League, winning 10 of them. They have also won the last four away matches against them in this competition, including a 1-0 victory against RB Leipzig last term.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s recent home record against English teams is mixed. They lost to Tottenham in 2024-25 having drawn with them two seasons earlier. Since 2018-19, they have also beaten West Ham, drawn with Chelsea and lost to Arsenal on their own patch.

    Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool are expected to maintain their strong recent record against German clubs. The Opta supercomputer ran 10,000 simulations of the match, with the Reds winning in 56.3% of them.

The other two possible outcomes have been deemed almost as likely as each other. A draw (22.0%) edged a home win (21.8%), but there’s very little in it.

With Eintracht having lost their last two home games while Liverpool have lost their last three on the road, any result feels possible.
