For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Zara Kocak from Gallatin, Tennessee has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Indiana beginning in fall 2027. Kocak is a “Best of the Rest” ranked recruit in SwimSwam’s high school class of 2027.
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Indiana University!! Endless thanks to my family, friends, coaches, and Excel Aquatics teammates who have helped me grow as both an athlete and a person. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement from the Indiana University staff and look forward to everything ahead in this next chapter. GO HOOSIERS!”
Kocak swims for Excel Aquatics out of Nashville, Tennessee. This past May she swam at the AP Race London Invite posting lifetime bests in the LCM 200 fly (2:15.60) and 400 IM (4:58.51).
She finished her short course season at NCSAs in March and was highlighted by a win in the 200 fly. She swam to a 1:58.09 dropping over a second off her previous lifetime best. She also swam a lifetime best 4:19.93 in the 400 IM for 18th.
Kocak’s Best SCY Times Are:
200 fly: 1:58.09 100 fly: 53.48 400 IM: 4:19.93 200 back: 2:00.11The Indiana women finished 2nd at the 2025 Big Ten Championships with 1255.5 points, less than 100 points behind Ohio State who captured the conference title with 1338.5 points. The Hoosier women went on to finish 4th at 2025 NCAAs, marking a program high, but graduated their top scorer Anna Peplowski. The team welcomes Alex Shackell this upcoming spring and Shackell will look to off set some of the loss from Peplowski. Shackell has a best time of a 1:50.15 in the 200 fly and the Kocak would overlap with Shackell for two seasons.
Based on her best times, Kocak would already make the Big Ten ‘B’ final of the 200 fly. Ava Whitaker led the team in the event as she was 2nd at Big Tens in a 1:55.17 but she has since transferred to Texas A&M. Kocak is just off scoring in the 100 fly as it took a 53.45 to make it back.
Kocak joins the class of 2031 that has gotten off to a quick start for the Hoosiers. Also already announcing their commitments are Honorable Mention ranked recruit Bryce Winzenread, BOTR Addy Gebhart, and Summer Juniors Finalist Kate Fetters.
