CSK has a lot of challenges ahead or IPL 2026. Their batting didn’t do well in this year’s tournament, and same was the condition of the bowling department; Noor Ahmad perhaps was the only shining light. But the team would have to take a few tough calls going into the next season. For starters, just like Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed, they would have to get in some youngsters, who would play for them for a long time to come.
InsideSport takes a look at the predicted CSK retention list for IPL 2026.
CSK predicted retention list for IPL 2026
Ravindra Jadeja: Can you ever dare to take Jaddu out of any team? CSK will most likely retain him, with him scoring 301 runs and picking up 10 wickets in IPL 2025.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: He had horrific season where he was injured after just five matches. But nonetheless, he is the skipper of the team.
Matheesha Pathirana: The Malinga-style bowler picked up only 13 wickets in 12 matches this year, but he is, in a way their spearhead. If fit, he can be devastating.
Proven performers
Shivam Dube: He had decent season where he scored over 350 runs, but his knock against Pakistan in Asia Cup final, will only propel CSK to keep him.
Noor Ahmad: 24 wickets in 14 matches for a side that finished last, sounds quite unfair. But CSK would surely retain him, given what he brings to the team.
Khaleel Ahmed: He wasn’t at his best, but still managed to pick 15 wickets for the team. He would share new-ball duties with Pathirana.
Rachin Ravindra: A forgettable season, and was dropped after a few matches, but CSK seem to have built a strong relationship with him. He even trained at their academy last year, before the IND series. So he stays.
Anshul Kamboj: 8 wickets in 8 matches, but showed a lot of promise. He could be given an extension for a year at least.
Sam Curran: He bats anywhere in the batting-order, can be a decent bowling-option too.
Young brigade here to stay
Gurjapneet Singh: He is a product of the Tamil Nadu domestic team; has shown a lot of promise and will be retained. Though he did not play a single match, but one can be certain of his retention.
Vansh Bedi: Hasn’t had enough time in his domestic team too, but he could be groomed for the future.
Andre Siddarth: Again a TN product and has been scoring heavily in domestic cricket. Would be retained.
Shreyas Gopal: Can do well if given an opportunity, and the team needs backup players like him, who have enough experience under their belt. Has played 52 IPL matches before.
Ramakrishna Ghosh: A decent fast-bowling all-rounder, who is unlikely to play for CSK anytime soon, but still is a handy back up.
Shaik Rasheed: Opened the batting with Ayush Mhatre for a few matches, wasn’t great, but potential is there for sure.
Mukesh Choudhary: Can bowl quick, but fitness could be a concern. Played only two matches this year, where his economy was over 11.
MS Dhoni in or out?
MS Dhoni: Whether he will play, or not play, is always a question mark. Every year is a big surprise. If he decides to play, there is no way CSK is not retaining him; if he doesn’t, it will be a huge loss. In his case, records don’t matter.
Kamlesh Nagarkoti: After his exploits in the U19 WC a few years ago, he has vanished due to injuries. But then, he could be a great addition, if he gets to play, and if fully fit.
Nathan Ellis: Great to have someone as experienced as Ellis, as a reserve. With the four-foreign player rule, he might end sitting on the bench in most games, but he could come in as Pathirana’s replacement, whenever needed.
Jamie Overton: The English all-rounder might just be able to save his spot this time around. If he was bought for a price of INR 1.50 Cr, the team might have some plans for him.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Devon Conway (Rs. 6.25 crore), Rahul Tripathi (Rs. 3.40 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs. 4 crore), R.
