ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say an employee with the DePaul Community Services has been arrested after being accused of stealing someone’s SNAP benefits.
Deputies say Shatoya Heckstall was the rep payee representative for the victim, and cancelled their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits Card without the victim knowing.
Deputies say Heckstall then ordered a new SNAP Benefit Card and pretended to be the victim and used the card at various stores in and around Rochester. She got over $3,000 in goods that would’ve belonged to the victim, deputies say.
Heckstall was arrested for identity theft in the first degree and brought to the Ontario County Jail on pre-arraignment detention. She will answer to her charge at the Canandaigua Town Court at a later date.
