Polish native Anna Bonecka has verbally committed to Southern Methodist University as a part of the Mustangs’ women’s recruiting class of 2026.
The clock is ticking and you better get ready
This road seemed to lead to a completely different place, but luckily I turned in the right direction and it brought me here. I still can’t believe that I will have the honor to continue my education and swimming adventure at SMU in Dallas. Thank you to Coach Ozzie, Coach Alice, and Coach Mike for trusting me, giving me this unique opportunity and making me feel like one of the Mustangs right away. I have no doubt that none of this would have happened without the help of my parents, who I can always count on, who always believe in me, and who have made me who I am today – I love you.
Thank you to my loved ones, my friends, my current coaches, and everyone who has contributed along the way. Girls, I can’t wait to visit again and join this amazing team. Kick’em Stangs!
Bonecka, who hails from the Polish capital of Warsaw, had one of her best long course showings at the Polish Open and Junior Championships in April of 2024. There, she set a trio of best times in both the 50 breaststroke (32.03) 100 breast (1:10.78), and 100 butterfly (1:02.11).
Earlier this summer, Bonecka competed at the Polish Junior Championships 17-18 (LCM), where she finished 3rd in the 50 breast (32.62), 100 breast (1:11.43), and 200 breast (2:36.02). Her 200 breast swim marked a new lifetime best performance. She also notched a 4th-place finish in the 50 freestyle (27.19).
In March of 2024, Bonecka raced at the Arena Grand Prix Polish Cup (LCM), where she nabbed a best time in the 50 free, finishing 10th overall in 27.01. At the same meet in November of 2023, she set a new best in the 200 IM, clocking 2:25.13.

Based on Bonecka’s converted times, she projects to have qualified for the ‘C’ final in the 100 breast, and finished 35th in the 200 breast and 50th in the 100 fly.
Her breaststroke is her clear specialty, and there is some potential to play around with the other event choice in a championship format. Her 50 breast also has the potential to be a key piece for future Mustang relays.
It is important to note that the conversions can only give us a rough estimate of how she will perform in yards, and that a majority of her best times were swum in 2024 or earlier.
Bonecka will join Emma Hagberg, Ella Houston, Tessa Christiansen, and Emma Bibza in the Mustangs’ 2026 recruiting class.
