While we’re gearing up for the first stop of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, this year’s Swim England National County Team Championships concluded on Sunday, October 5th at the storied Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.

When all was said and done, the Kent team once again demonstrated its dominance, capturing the Division 1 title with a total of 495 points ahead of Yorkshire and Surrey. This year’s trophy marks Kent’s third title in four years.

European Junior Championships multi-medalist Theodora Taylor was one of the highest-profile athletes to take to the pool, racing in the 16/17-year-old girls’ 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke events.

In the former, the 16-year-old ripped a lifetime best of 53.09 to get the gold, beating the field by nearly a second in the process.

Fellow speedster Amalie Smith was next to the wall in 54.03 while Hannah Capron of Derbeshire rounded out the podium in 55.03.

Taylor opened in 25.47 and closed in 27.62 to become the champion, checking in as Great Britain’s 9th-fastest performer of all-time.

More specific to her age, Taylor’s 53.09 result established a new British Junior Record, erasing Olympian Freya Anderson‘s previous benchmark of 53.13 notched in 2016.

As for the 100m breast, Taylor stopped the clock at 1:05.85 to once again get to the wall in a healthy advantage over her competitors.

Devon’s 17-year-old Gabrielle Idle-Beavers snagged silver in 1:07.73 as Kent’s 16-year-old Imogen Myles bagged the bronze in 1:09.73.

Entering this competition, Taylor’s PB in the SCM 100 breast rested at the 1:06.98 logged just under two years ago in Canada. That previously represented the British Junior Record in the event but she blasted that to bits in Sheffield.

Taylor split 31.02/34.83 to turn in the best time of her young career. She now ranks as GBR’s 9th-best performer of all time in the event.

    Additional Notes

Smith went on to take the 16/17-year-old girls’ 100m back in a time of 59.61, the sole time of the field under the 1:00 barrier. Yorkshire’s Daniel Ransom made some noise in the 16/17-yr-old boys’ 100m back, reaping gold in 53.98. He also nabbed 100m breast gold for his age group, notching 59.93 as the only swimmer in the pack under the 1:01 barrier.
