Dorado, Puerto Rico native Caleb Romero Serrano has verbally committed to join the Northwestern men’s program for the fall of 2026.

Romero Serrano represented Puerto Rico last December at the World Short Course Championships. There, he competed in a pair of middle distance freestyle races, finishing 54th in the 200 free (1:49.51) and 37th in the 400 free (3:51.15).
In October of 2024, Romero Serrano swam a pair of lifetime short course bests at the Puerto Rican International Swimming Open (SCM); clocking 3:49.17 in the 400 free and 1:47.63 marking performances.
Romero Serrano holds two Puerto Rican national short course swimming records (200 Free and 400 Free).
Earlier this summer, Romero Serrano put forth one of his most impressive long course showings of his career at the Junior Panamerican Games. He set lifetime bests in the 100 free (52.15), 200 free (1:52.45, 10th overall), and 400 free (4:00.35, 7th overall).
Romero Serrano does hold very respectable short course yards times, while representing Ridgefield Swim Club, Romero Serrano swam four lifetime bests at the Connecticut BULL February Invitational in February of 2024, clocking 22.38 in the 50 free, 46.55 in the 100 free, 1:40.24 in the 200 free, and 4:37.76 in the 500 free.

50 Free: 22.38 100 Free: 46.55 200 Free: 1:40.24 500 Free: 4:37.76The Northwestern men finished 7th at the 2025 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships. Based on Romero Serrano’s best times, he would have finished 40th in the 100 free, 35th in the 200 Free, and 40th in the 500 free.
Romero Serrano has seen very consistent improvement across the board after taking a massive jump from 2021 to 2022, where he shaved over 11 seconds off of his long course 400 free, and nearly four seconds off of his long course 200 free.
This positive trajectory is a promising sign for Northwestern, who will be able to utilize him even further once he gets more reps in a yards pool.
Northwestern’s recruiting class for 2026 includes Ben Whiteford, Brandon Ha, Mike Marder, Jack Chiapetta, and Zack Kusch.
