Tony Vitello is aware that his name has been linked to managerial openings at the major league level, but says he’s focused on the Tennessee Volunteers.
Vitello’s squad has started playing fall ball. Mike Wilson of the Knoxville News Sentinel caught up with Vitello after the Vols faced Chattanooga in a scrimmage. Per Wilson, Vitello was specifically mentioned in connection to the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves.
Vitello said job conversations are handled by his agent, but he was aware of the reports. He maintained his focus is on UT’s 2026 season and recruiting.

Vitello, who turns 47 on Thursday, has been Tennessee’s head coach since 2018. He has posted a 341-131 record, leading the Volunteers to a national title in 2024. He has also guided the program to 3 Super Regional wins, 5 NCAA Regional wins, 2 SEC regular-season titles and 2 SEC Tournament championships.
As a player, Vitello was a Mizzou infielder from 2000-2002. He immediately got into coaching with the Salinas Packers of the California Collegiate League. He then became an assistant at his alma mater in 2003 before stops at TCU and Arkansas.
The Vols posted a 46-19 overall record in 2025, ending the season in the Fayetteville Super Regional against Arkansas.
