DENVER (KDVR) -- A 14-year-old boy who has been in hospital care since he was shot at Evergreen High School on Sept. 10 has been discharged to go home.
A spokesperson for Children's Hospital Colorado told FOX31 that the boy was released on Tuesday in "good condition."
Last week, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office released a statement on behalf of the family as they wish to remain confidential at this time.
The family said that the boy encountered the shooter face-to-face before the lockdown began, and he suffered "traumatic gunshot injuries." He was transferred from St. Anthony Hospital to Children's Hospital Colorado and has undergone multiple surgeries.
“Our son was shot at close range. Yet, he was able to run from the school to save his own life,” the family said. “As he and his friend ran through the school to escape, they alerted classmates about a student with a gun. Our son reached the recreation center behind the school and received immediate, critical first aid from an EMT/firefighter who was working there.”
After initial surgeries, the family said the boy was able to communicate by writing, and his first questions were about the well-being of his family, friends, classmates, teachers and the other victim.
