Carole Radziwill Responds to Explosive ‘RHONY’ Questions About Ghislaine Maxwell With Lengthy Statement

Carole Radziwill is speaking out after facing questions about her former friendship with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell during the October 13 episode of The Real Housewives of New York City.

The 63-year-old reality star addressed her connection to Maxwell while having breakfast with co-stars Sai De Silva, Jessel Taank, Daisy Toye, and Hailey Glassman during a cast trip to Moskito Island.

Radziwill insisted she never met Jeffrey Epstein, never visited his private island and had no knowledge of the crimes involving Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

“So what was your relationship with Ghislaine?” De Silva asked. “Cause weren’t you two really good friends?”

“If you read the press, we were,” Radziwill responded.

The celebrated journalist, with Kennedy ties, explained that she knew Maxwell socially in the early 2000s, when they occasionally attended the same events in New York City.

“In the early 2000s, it would be strange if you didn’t go out to a big event in New York, and Ghislaine wasn’t there. I was friendly with her,” Radziwill said. “We had a couple of mutual girlfriends, and when I would see Ghislaine, it would always be with these mutual girlfriends, but I didn’t know Jeffrey Epstein. I never met him. She never talked about him.”

Radziwill also revealed that Maxwell once arranged a dinner for her with Prince Andrew after learning she was visiting London following the death of her husband, Anthony Radziwill.

However, the conversation became tense when De Silva questioned Radziwill about emails between her and Maxwell that appeared in the Epstein files.

De Silva, who has a teenage daughter, explained that the crimes involving Epstein deeply disturbed her and that she wanted answers.

“I get that people would be curious about it, but there’s a fine line between curiosity and accusation,” Radziwill said in a confessional. “Why are you using your daughter as a shield? And then also a sword to grill me with questions?”

Months after filming the scene, Radziwill addressed the controversy further in a lengthy essay published on her Substack, The Voice of Reason, titled, “Welcome to the Patriarchy,” which she shared with People.

“I’ve spoken publicly about Ghislaine Maxwell for years,” Radziwill wrote, pointing to previous interviews with The New York Times and USA Today, along with podcast appearances and social media statements.

“Honestly, my family would like me to shut up, and I get it — we live in a strange and dangerous world.”

Radziwill explained that she understood why people were interested in her connection to Maxwell but maintained that she had no involvement in or knowledge of the criminal activities.

“So, imagine knowing someone twenty years ago or thinking you knew them — even calling them a friend — only to find out they were implicated in sex crimes. The cognitive dissonance is real,” she wrote.

The Bravo star also addressed the personal emails and contact information that appeared in documents released by the Department of Justice.

She described the correspondence as casual exchanges between friends from 2004 and 2005 and questioned why her private information had become public.

“Imagine being doxxed by your own government,” Radziwill wrote.

She also criticized social media users who continue to suggest she must have known about Maxwell’s crimes.

“No matter how many Instagram bots, Reddit threads, conspiracy theorists, and weekend TikTok detectives parroting the same lines — I ‘must have known’ or Maxwell was my ‘bestie’ — it will never be true,” she wrote.

Radziwill added that she was willing to discuss the subject on television but believed some of the questions had crossed a line.

“I don’t need to defend my reputation. No serious person believes I was, in any way, involved in a criminal sex-trafficking ring. Yet here I am, on a private island, no less, answering the same questions all over again.”

During the episode, Radziwill also reflected on how difficult it was to learn the truth about someone she once considered a friend.

“It does shake me to think that I knew someone, and would even call her a friend, who then, 20 years later, turned out to be a monster,” she said.

Radziwill has not been accused of participating in Epstein’s crimes, and the appearance of someone’s name in the released files does not establish wrongdoing.

New episodes of The Real Housewives of New York City air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo and stream the following day on Peacock.
