Johnny Nelson thinks that Anthony Joshua should hang up his gloves.
Joshua has been out of action since Daniel Dubois brutally knocked him out in 2024.
The 35-year-old was gearing up for a return in summer 2025, but needed surgery to fix an elbow injury that was preventing him from punching properly.
After a successful rehabilitation period, Joshua has returned to training and is eyeing up his options for a comeback.
Former cruiserweight world champion, Nelson, doesn’t want to see him back in the ring and ultimately believes his time is up.
On talkBOXING, he explained: “I think, first of all, I don’t think Jake Paul was ever going to happen.
“I don’t think it was ever going to happen, even when Jake Paul was shouting it out and Eddie [Hearn] propped it up a bit, by the way.
“It was never, ever going to happen, number one.
“Number two, I think for Anthony Joshua, coming from a place of love, I think Anthony Joshua’s got nothing else to prove in this game.
“He should rather walk away than hang about and wait for someone to turn him over.
“It’s either him and Tyson Fury, which we’re all sick of the is it happening or isn’t it happening?
“Or just walk out of it.

Although it seems that Joshua doesn’t want to retire with his record at 28-4, as he plans to make at least two more appearances.
What is Anthony Joshua’s plan?
His promoter, Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn, has revealed that Joshua isn’t risking a rushed return and will be spending the rest of the year in the gym training.
The Watford powerhouse is believed to be gearing up for a competitive fight with a top-15 ranked heavyweight at the start of 2026.
Paul, who Joshua is said to have an agreement to fight with, does not fit within that category so it remains unclear as to whether or not we will see them face-off.
Although the YouTuber-turned-boxer has confirmed on multiple occasions that the pair still plan to fight when the time is right, nothing is set in stone.
GETTYJoshua vs Paul is agreed verbally, but it is uncertain if the fight will happen in 2026[/caption]Another name that continues to be brought up in conversations surrounding Joshua is, top ranked heavyweight, Fury.
The pair share a unique rivalry that never amounted to anything more than verbal jabs, as Fury retired before pursuing their alleged two-fight deal.
Instead of Paul or Tyson, Hearn floated Martin Bakole, Efe Ajagba and Tony Yoka as likely comeback opponents for his fighter.
He explained to iFL TV: “It might not even be against someone in the top 7 or 8.
“But it all depends on the plan. When you are planning something like this, you aren’t just going ‘Oh, who is he fighting first?’
“We’re planning out probably the next three fights, and who we fight in fight three may even determine what we do in fights one and two.”
Only time will tell who Joshua is opposite in the ring, but as it stands it’s likely not going to be anyone at the top of the division just yet.
