All schools in northeastern Colorado’s Brush School District were closed Monday after a “suspicious device” was discovered on campus the night before.
“Late Sunday evening, a suspicious device was discovered on the grounds of our secondary campus,” Superintendent Marsha Cody wrote in a letter posted to the district’s website. “… While the initial assessment has been completed, we will not resume normal operations until the device has been examined by specialized experts.”
Brush police officers and firefighters searched the secondary campus, Thornton Primary School and Beaver Valley Elementary on Sunday, Cody said.
Cody didn’t specify the results of the search or what the suspicious item was, but she said the decision to close the school was made in consultation with law enforcement.
The Greeley Police Department’s bomb squad will arrive early Monday morning to assess and safely remove the device, according to the letter. Until the device has been cleared, no students or staff will be allowed on campus.
There will be no classes for any grade level, staff should not report to work and all athletic practices and on-site activities are canceled on Monday, Cody wrote. All school facilities are closed to the public.
