Friday has belonged to Team Europe at the Ryder Cup.
And Rory McIlroy is letting the home crowd know it.
Europe’s historic 3-1 morning lead set the stage, and McIlroy seemed intent on keeping the raucous American crowd at bay into the afternoon during fourballs.
After Shane Lowry’s birdie at the 11th, McIlroy appeared to flash a middle finger toward someone in the crowd.
Team Europe seems looser than the home side. Even with President Trump in attendance and all the dancing, Luke Donald’s squad doesn’t seem fazed.
On the flip side, it’s been a rough start for Team USA — and shockingly, for the world’s best player, Scottie Scheffler.
The four-time major winner, alongside partner Russell Henley, lost the morning foursome 5&3 to Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick.
He also underwhelmed in the afternoon during fourballs with partner J.J. Spaun against Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka, as the European duo won to boost the visitors’ advantage on the opening day at Bethpage Black.
