Evans is one step closer to making a new police station a reality after breaking ground on construction of the building Friday evening.
Construction at the new site, 3819 Saint Vrain St., is slated to take roughly 18 months and is expected to cost about $35 million, according to a city news release. The new 30,000-plus-square-foot station will be funded by the food for at-home consumption tax, which was instituted more than 20 years ago and earmarked for public safety projects.
“I want to make Evans the community of choice in northern Colorado,” Mayor Mark Clark said in February. “We want to make sure that this is a place that when people come to live here, they want to stay here. This is about community beautification and community pride. And this is one way of showing what Evans can be and what Evans will be in the future.”
