After initially announcing his intention to swim for Indiana University, Jackson Edwards has flipped his commitment and announced his verbal commitment to compete the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2027. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I chose Navy over other teams because I wanted the ability to excel academically as well as athletically and am excited at the opportunity to serve my country. Go Navy, beat Army!
A rising senior at Bethel Park High School in Pennsylvania, Edwards has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming team since his freshman year. He also trains year-round with Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics, where he primarily specializes in backstroke, sprint butterfly, and sprint freestyle.
On the high school scene, Edwards finished fourth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 3A State Championships in February, his first time qualifying for ‘A’ finals at the meet.
A three-time Winter Juniors qualifier, Edwards placed 16th in the 100 back (48.25), 33rd in the 100 fly (48.46), 42nd in the 50 free (20.59), and 79th in the 100 free (45.78) at the East location this past December. His times in the 100 back and 100 fly are current lifetime bests, each about a second faster than his previous-season PBs, while his time in the 50 free was his season best for 2025-26.
Edwards also holds a handful of career bests from previous seasons: he swam 1:51.67 in the 200 back in December 2023, 20.51 in the 50 free in February 2025, and 45.27 in the 100 free this past October at the AM PEAQ Halloween Invitational. 4902 4958
Beyond short course swimming, Edwards also clocked Summer Junior Nationals qualifying times in the 50m free (23.62), 100m free (51.79), 100m back (57.64), and 100m fly (55.81) this past summer.

Edwards’ current lifetime best in the 100 back would have qualified for the ‘A’ final and placed seventh, in addition to qualifying for the ‘B’ final in the 100 fly and ‘C’ finals in the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 back, setting him up to be an immediate contributor, with still two seasons of training ahead before lining up at his first conference meet.
Edwards joins Vincent Battaglini, Cole Nelson, Thomas Smith, Alexander Ivascu, Zachary Mcnabb, Camp Hartman, Ryan Baldwin, Alex Jungbluth, Parker Efird, and Tyler Koepp in publicizing their commitments to Navy’s class of 2031 so far.
