Chicago Cubs Lineup: Definintely Not a “Rest” Lineup

CUBS LINEUP — The Cubs clinched a postseason berth last night, but they are definitely NOT getting an “alternates” or “rest” lineup this evening in Cincinnati. I wonder if we’re going to see some hungover ballplayers against the Reds at Great American Ballpark. To be fair to Craig Counsell, they’ve still got plenty to play for!

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

Michael Busch, 1B Nico Hoerner, 2B Ian Happ, LF Moises Ballesteros, DH Seiya Suzuki, RF Carson Kelly, C Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF Dansby Swanson, SS Matt Shaw, 3B

That’s as normal as it gets for a Cubs lineup, with starters and everyday players at every single spot. The only guy missing is Kyle Tucker, who is not even with the team right now.

    Hydrate, my dear Cubs. Hydate!

    Cincinnati Reds Lineup:

TJ Friedl, CF Gavin Lux, DH Austin Hays, LF Sal Stewart, 3B Will Benson, RF Spencer Steer, 1B Elly De La Cruz, SS Tyler Stephenson, C Matt McLain, 2B

    Pitching Matchup:

    Chicago Cubs: Colin Rea, RHP

Colin Rea is starting his 26th game tonight, but that’s really more like his 28th game (he had an opener a couple of times). Pretty crazy he got this high after not even opening the season in the starting rotation. He’s had a couple of good ones back-to-back (10.2 IP, 10H, 4ER, 0BB, 10Ks) against the Nats and Rays. Though the Reds hit him VERY well when they faced him back-to-back earlier this season: 10.2 IP, 17H, 12ER, 4HR, 5BB, 11K.

    Cincinnati Reds: Hunter Greene, RHP

Hunter Greene has had a very good season overall, with a 3.01 ERA over 17 starts and 92.2 IP, but the last outing was by far his worst of the season: 2.1 IP, 4H, 5ER, 4BB, 3K. Unless something is physically wrong with him, I wouldn’t expect something like that tonight, as he had been pretty lights out in the 11 starts leading up to that dud: 59.2 IP, 78Ks, 2.72 ERA.
