A modern Chinese restaurant is closing after five years in East Colfax Avenue’s Bluebird District, its chef and owner said Friday.
Christopher Lin, who opened Q House in May 2018, declined to discuss the reason for the closure, but said he’d release a statement later today.
In recommending the restaurant in 2023 and 2024, the Michelin Guide wrote, “Wood floors, exposed ducts and garage-style doors keep things casual at Q House, where eager diners dig in to family-style dishes. [Lin] shares his Taiwanese heritage on this broad Chinese menu with modern Sichuan leanings. Pick and choose from small and large dishes, all designed for sharing. A plate of chicken and shrimp wontons made with chicken schmaltz and dressed in a sweet soy with rice vinegar and chili oil is a crowd-pleaser. Chong Qing chicken, with cubes of dark meat chicken tossed in potato and rice starch and fried crispy with chilies and Sichuan pepper, is subtle at first, but the heat builds and delivers fantastic flavor.”

Colfax Ave., shared a building with Middleman, a cocktail bar that had an eatery counter, Misfit Snack Bar, housed within it. Both closed earlier this year; Misfit’s owner, chef Bo Porytko, blamed the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit line construction for hurting business. Middleman was sold to new owners who have said they’d like to reopen the bar.
Construction of the BRT, which began last year, has squeezed businesses and curtailed car and pedestrian traffic. Restaurant owners have reported losses of up to 40% year over year. The BRT line stretches from downtown to Interstate 225 in Aurora and is expected to be completed in 2027.
