Dana White lost his cool moments before separating Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford in their latest face-off.
Alvarez and Crawford went head-to-head at a Las Vegas press conference, with just days remaining until their blockbuster undisputed super-middleweight title clash on Saturday night.
On stage UFC president White was hosting the event, his first ever fight week press conference since announcing his venture into squared circle promotion.
The event took an unfamiliar format in boxing, copying the UFC’s age-old tradition of asking reporters and fans from the crowd for their questions.
A reporter from the crowd decided to ask his question to UFC kingpin White about his plans for the sport.
His question was aimed at the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act of 2000, which was introduced to prevent alternative governing bodies from setting up in boxing.
A bill has since been introduced into US congress to challenge and reform the 25-year-old structure, right in time for the arrival of White’s new boxing league alongside Saudi chief Turki Alalshikh.

White has teased promoting the sport in the same vein to his successful UFC model, with his own belts and rankings system.
And as a result, the reporter asked: “So my question to you is, why then do you want to make sweeping changes to the Muhammad Ali Reform Act that is meant to protect fighters?”
White responded: “Well, this is obviously a long discussion. If you want to talk to me about that, set up an interview. This isn’t about me and my business. It’s about these two guys on Saturday night.”
The crowd got involved and booed White, which saw the reporter bring up a hearing about the Ali act and the arrival of White’s Zuffa Boxing league.
White then got more angry and swore, replying: “Listen, if you want to be an asshole, let’s do it in private and we can do an interview.
GettyEven Canelo got involved from his seat, but tensions eventually cooled down with focus on boxing’s biggest fight[/caption]“If you wanna showboat, I get it. If you have questions for these two that are fighting on Saturday, that’s a different story.”
Alvarez even got involved from the side of the stage, reacting: “Fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight.”
Things eventually simmered down as the pair agreed to disagree on the debate.
But White’s new presence in boxing is likely to certainly ruffle some feathers.
Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford face-off
After the argument, focus turned back to Alvarez and Crawford who are preparing for their mega-fight.
The pound-for-pound operators had little to say on stage to each other, with focus on business and the prospect of changing their legacy forever in the ring.
GettyCanelo and Crawford’s face-off stole the show back from White, as the pair prepared to make history to a chorus of cheers[/caption] With proceedings outside of the ring almost over, it still seems impossible to separate the pair’s stellar boxing resumesBut it was a seriously tense face-off between the pair, who held a gazing stare for several minutes.
Crawford in particular was locked in on his rival, but the pair eventually broke gaze.
No pushing or shoving broke out like during their previous launch press conference earlier in the year, and it is now just the weights to take before their battle is official.
Dana White promoting Canelo vs Crawford and his plan for boxing
White took on the challenge of promoting Canelo vs Crawford, boxing’s biggest event of the year, as a start to his time in the spotlight in the sport.
The UFC kingpin has big plans alongside Alalshikh, as he will attempt to disrupt the existing promoters and build his own empire.
It is likely that this will form the start of a few pay-per-view events moving into 2026 that White will oversee with Alalshikh.
White has big plans after this event, but his first focus is making this the commercial success it promises to beBut he will also look to bring through the best global talent in a ‘Contender Series’ style format alongside the big names.
He has only ever promoted one boxer in Callum Walsh, who will feature on the undercard, but he faces a big challenge to mirror his success in the UFC.
