Homicide detectives sought Thursday to identify and track down a man who fatally shot another man during a late-night fight in Ocean Beach.
The deadly shooting took place in the 5000 block of Newport Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene from at least a gunshot wound to his upper body.
“Investigators have learned the (victim) was involved in a confrontation with two men in a parking lot,” SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi said. “The victim punched one of the men, at which time the second man produced a handgun and shot (him).”
At that point, the killer and his companion fled to the west down a nearby alley, then to the north toward Santa Monica Avenue, Maggi said.
Police have released no detailed descriptions of the shooter or his cohort.
