Mater Dei has hired Chico State assistant coach and former Pacifica player Nicole Wise as its softball coach, the Trinity League school announced Monday.
Wise helped Chico State improve last season with a 22-24 record. She was previously part of coach Brad Pickler’s staff at Cypress College that claimed a state title in 2023.
Wise attended Pacifica and went on to play at Cypress College and Hope International.
At Mater Dei, Wise takes the reins for Nicole Thomas, who departed after three seasons to become the coach at Vanguard University.
Mater Dei finished second in the Trinity League last season and lost to Chino Hills 8-1 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
In 2024, Mater Dei reached the Division 2 semifinals and lost to eventual champion Gahr.
Thomas finished with a 43-30-2 record at Mater Dei.
