The San Francisco 49ers tight end is married to Claire Kittle (née Till), whom he met way back in 2012, when they were freshmen at the University of Iowa. The couple eloped on April 9, 2019 after an eight-month engagement, then held another ceremony at their offseason home in Nashville, Tenn., in 2021.

The pair were college sweethearts who met during their freshman year at the University of Iowa, where he played football and she played women’s basketball. In a proposal video posted to YouTube, Kittle recalled the first time he spotted Claire on campus, walking from a moped parking lot into the dorms. “I saw her and I was like, ‘Goddamn, who is that?’” he remembers. He spent the next eight months pursuing her until, finally, after a long stay in the “friend zone,” he won her over.
“When I first got drafted I wasn’t sure if she was going to move out here [to San Francisco] or not,” he continued. “I was like, ‘I need her to come with me, because she’s such an important part of my life.’” Claire packed her bags and headed for California.

How long have George Kittle and Claire been together?
They’ve been romantically involved for 13 years, since 2012, and married for six, since 2019.
The Kittles tied the knot on April 10, 2019, in a ceremony at a family friend’s jewelry store in Iowa City, earlier than expected.
“In all honesty we just wanted to be married, plain as that,” Claire wrote on her blog. “We had been going to wedding after wedding recently and as fun and beautiful and amazing as they all were, a traditional wedding just didn’t feel right for us. We knew we wanted a quaint, small, intimate ceremony with only our immediate family because that’s the sacred part of it all.”
They’d intended to throw a bigger party in Italy in June 2020, but the pandemic foiled that plan; instead, they hosted a celebration at their home in Nashville two years after their elopement.

Claire, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Physiology from the University of Iowa, worked as a certified personal trainer while she and Kittle were living in Iowa City, where she ran a training business called Claire Till Fitness. They do not. In February 2023, Claire revealed that she had an ectopic pregnancy — an unviable and dangerous pregnancy where the egg implants outside the uterus — earlier that year, which doctors discovered when she was 7.5 weeks along. “I’m so thankful for the nurses and doctors who found this soon enough and to the Niners for allowing George to sprint out of the building at any given moment,” Claire wrote on Instagram. “George was my strength when I had none. We leaned on each other like we never have before.”
She went on to say that she was sharing her personal story in hopes that other women who’ve had an ectopic pregnancy would feel less isolated. “You’re not alone,” she wrote. “It sucks, It’s hard, be strong. There’s strength in stories and I hope you can find comfort in ours.”
