Distance Freestyler Dashiell DeAnda To Swim For UCSD In The Fall Of 2026

By Sean Griffin on SwimSwam

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Dashiell DeAnda has announced his commitment to continue both his education and swimming career at the University of California, San Diego, where he will join the team in the fall of 2026. He is from Riverside, California, where he attends Riverside Poly-Tech High School and trains year-round with Riverside Aquatics Association.

DeAnda, a Futures qualifier, is the twin brother of Cal commit Ava DeAnda, who was ranked fourth in SwimSwam’s high school class of 2026.

Dashiell DeAnda confirmed his commitment to SwimSwam and provided the following quote:

I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at UC San Diego. I want to thank my family, parents, my coaches and my teammates at RAA for supporting me. Thank you to Coach Marko and Coach Cassie for giving me this opportunity. GO TRITONS!!

The future Triton’s two target meets of the past high school season were the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 2 Championships and the CIF State Championships.

At the Divisional meet, DeAnda secured a pair of bronze medals in his individual events, the 200 and 500 free. He touched the wall in 1:40.89 in the 200, which represented his first time cracking 1:41, before going on to log 4:32.67 in the 500 free. He was a much quicker 4:30.65 during the prelims of the 500, which narrowly missed his current best time of 4:29.91 in the event.

While DeAnda is a clear distance specialist, he threw down some strong sprint free splits on the 200 and 400 relays. He led off the 200 free relay with a best time of 21.55, then swam 47.50 on the 400 free relay leadoff leg, about a second off his personal best. The 200 free relay took ninth overall, but the 400 relay had to settle for 23rd.

Wrapping up his short course season at State, DeAnda’s highest finish came in the 500 free, where he checked in at 4:32.90 for 25th overall. He also produced 1:40.98 in the 200 free for 29th, his only other event of the competition.

Outside of the 200 and 500, DeAnda is an exceptional miler, as he owns a lifetime best of 15:40.72. This event is not offered at the high school level but is prominent on the collegiate scene, and his best comes from the Speedo Sectionals in Oceanside in late February.

    200 Freestyle: 1:40.89 500 Freestyle: 4:29.91 1650 Freestyle: 15:40.72

UCSD finished fourth out of five teams in the men’s meet at the 2025 Big West Conference Championships. At that meet, where ‘A’ and ‘B’ finals are offered, it took times of 1:39.93 and 4:40.83 in the freestyles to make the top 16, with 4:27.01 required to make the grade for the 500 free ‘A’ heat. His best in that event would have put him 14th after prelims and into an outside lane in the ‘B’ final.

In the 1650 free, where timed finals are conducted, his best would have placed him fifth overall. With another year of high school remaining, he has ample time to further improve before arriving on campus.

Looking at the team’s depth chart for the 2024–25 season, DeAnda’s bests would have situated him second in the 1650 free, fifth in the 500 free, and eighth in the 200 free. Junior Aidan Rikic held the team’s fastest 200 free at 1:37.30, while senior Devin Esser (4:24.31) and freshman Charlie Franz (15:24.12) topped the standings in the longer races.

Baumhover joins Darmen Yessengeldy, Andrew Vet, Daniel King, and Henry Baumhover in the Tritons’ class of 2030.
