Damascus , SANA – Amid public debate surrounding the screening of a film portraying the life of Syrian martyr Ghiyath Matar, the Ministry of Culture has firmly reiterated its support for the project, emphasizing its commitment to preserving the legacy of the Syrian people’s revolution.
In a statement posted on his official account on platform “X,” Minister of Culture Mohammad al-Saleh declared:“This stance reflects the Ministry’s broader cultural vision, to champion creative works that safeguard national memory and honor the sacrifices of the Syrian people.
It also underscores the Ministry’s belief in the role of culture as a tool for documenting truth and reinforcing the values of justice, dignity, and freedom principles for which Syrians have long struggled.”
Ghiyath Matar, the subject of the film, was a prominent activist who helped organize peaceful demonstrations demanding freedom in the city of Daraya, near Damascus.
He was arrested by the deposed regime forces in September 2011 and tragically died under torture.
