A child found a firearm at an elementary school playground in the northwest suburbs that a 45-year-old man had dropped, police said.
Around 3:50 p.m. on Sept. 2, 45-year-old Crystal Lake resident George Kiska was with his child at the South Elementary School playground, located at 601 Golf Road, when he dropped his firearm.
A child at the playground found the weapon and told their parent, police said.
Kiska was still present at the playground with his child and retrieved the firearm from another present adult, police said.
School was no longer in session when the incident occurred, authorities said.
Kiska is a valid CCL holder, authorities said.
The incident was reviewed by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and Kiska was cited for unlawful possession of a firearm in a school zone, police said. After being cited, Kiska was released.
